Researching food security Affiliated Curtin Appointed 2020
Liyuwork Mitiku Dana (Curtin) is developing a new index called child-focused food stress and social vulnerability index (CFSI) to capture the risk, extent and geographic distribution of childhood food insecurity in an Australian jurisdiction. Food insecurity has risen sharply in Australia as a result of natural and health disasters, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Food insecurity in children is somewhat a hidden problem in Australia and this new index will be used to guide the targeting of public health interventions and policies to support this important population sub-group.
Her project will be conducted at Curtin University under the supervision of A/Prof Christina Pollard and Prof Deborah Kerr. Liyuwork holds MPH degree in Applied Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Curtin University. She has extensive research experiences and worked in a research unit at Curtin School of Population Health since January 2018.
