Dr Arnold van Rooijen
The Forrest Research Foundation gave me an amazing opportunity to further develop my research and establish myself as an early-career researcher.”

Arnolds research aims to quantify the level of protection provided by marine coastal ecosystems (e.g., mangroves forests, seagrass meadows and coral and shellfish reefs) against coastal flooding and erosion. Using a combination of physical laboratory experiments and computational modelling, his project will support the incorporation of natural ecosystems in coastal protection strategies through ecological engineering, as well as ecosystem conservation and restoration.
