Arnold van Rooijen
Netherlands
Researching Conservation Affiliated UWA Appointed 2021
Dr Arnold van Rooijen is a coastal engineer and Forrest Foundation Prospect Fellow based at the Oceans Graduate School (UWA). His research aims to quantify the level of protection provided by marine coastal ecosystems (e.g., mangroves forests, seagrass meadows and coral and shellfish reefs) against coastal flooding and erosion. Using a combination of physical laboratory experiments and computational modelling, Arnold’s project will support the incorporation of natural ecosystems in coastal protection strategies through ecological engineering, as well as ecosystem conservation and restoration.
Arnold works within a team of researchers lead by Professor Ryan Lowe and uses state-of-the-art experimental facilities at the UWA Coastal and Offshore Engineering Laboratory.
