Andrea Gleason is a career diplomat with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She was State Director of DFAT’s Western Australia State Office from April 2015 to December 2018. In this role, Andrea led DFAT’s engagement with its diverse stakeholders in Western Australia, across government, business, academia and civil society, and helped grow WA’s economic and people links with the Indo-Pacific region.
Andrea has served overseas at the Australian Embassies in Washington DC (2009-2012) and Stockholm (1997-2000). She has extensive experience in trade policy issues and bilateral, regional and multilateral trade negotiations. At the Department’s head office in Canberra, Andrea’s roles have included Director, APEC Trade and Investment Section, and Director, Trade Policy Section.
Andrea holds a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Queensland. She has served as an advisory board member of the University of Western Australia’s Oceans Institute, Murdoch University’s Asia Research Centre and Curtin University’s Asia Business Centre.
